How Do I Work With You, Lora the Doula?

From our first conversation onward, I'm your one steady point of contact — no rotating faces, just me getting to know you, your hopes, and your worries. We'll shape your birth plan together over two prenatal visits, stay in close touch as your due date approaches, and I'll be on call to be with you when labour begins, wherever you choose to give birth. After your baby arrives, I'm still there to help you make sense of it all and find your feet.

What's included when we work together?

The package includes two prenatal visits, which I usually do at your home. We sit down together and talk through what you'd like for your birth, build your birth plan, and work through the many decisions along the way — what to expect, positions and comfort techniques, and how we'll work together on the day. It also includes ongoing availability to chat and answer questions, and the four-week on-call period around your due date.

What happens in the prenatal visits?

We sit down together — ideally with your birth partner if you have one — and talk about what you want your birth to look like, knowing it won't always go exactly to plan. We work on your birth plan, I walk you through the decisions you'll face and why you might want certain things (or not), and we cover how labour can unfold and how we'll work together with different positions and techniques.

How early should I decide, and can it be too early?

Many people arrange a doula in the few months before their due date. Around the halfway point of your pregnancy tends to be a good time to decide, but reaching out early is completely fine and simply gives us more time to prepare together.

How do we get started?

To begin, it's a €100 deposit plus a simple contract. From that point on, I'm available to you for questions and support.

What does the four-week on-call period mean?

Because your baby can arrive any time between 38 and 42 weeks, I'm on call for a four-week window — two weeks before your due date and two weeks after. During that period my phone is on 24/7, I stay close by, and I don't travel, so I can come to your birth whenever it begins.

Are you available before the on-call period too?

Yes. From the moment we start working together, I'm available for questions and to chat by text or call. I usually set up a WhatsApp group so we can stay in touch easily and share resources along the way.

What kind of support do you give during labour?

A few different things. I advocate for your birth plan — because I know what you want, if a decision comes up mid-labour I can help you think it through at a moment when you may be too deep in the experience to weigh things clearly. I offer hands-on comfort and help with positions and movement as your baby moves down. And I'm a steady, calm presence for both you and your partner, which matters because birth is intense for both of you. It's also worth preparing for labour to be long, especially with a first baby.

Is there support after the baby arrives?

I do one postnatal visit after your baby is born to help you process what happened and help provide any additional resources you need. In the Netherlands you'll also have kraamzorg — postpartum care that comes to your home after you're discharged and helps with the practical side of caring for a newborn. My after-care is the emotional and reflective support that sits alongside that. If you need additional support beyond that, you may want to hire a postpartum doula. 

How much does it cost?

My fee is €400 + VAT. To get started, it's a €100 deposit plus a simple contract. I'm currently building my experience through training, which is why my fee is roughly a quarter of what a fully experienced doula charges — so you're getting hands-on, one-to-one doula support at a lower rate.

What area do you cover?

I'm based in Amsterdam Noord and support families in and around Amsterdam.
